We license drivers as safe to operate cars.

We certify cars as safe to be operated on our roads. Some cars (such as a stock car racer) are just too powerful to certify under normal circumstances.

A car is at least as lethal as a gun.

I believe we should license gun owners as safe to operate a gun.

I believe we should certify guns as safe to be carried in our streets. Some guns are too powerful to certify under normal circumstances.

Besides that, people should be allowed to own guns.

To some, this makes me a dangerous second-amendment-hater who should be dragged out into the street and, well…

To others, this makes me a dangerous gun nut who wants to turn the streets into Boot Hill.

I figure that makes me a middle-of-the-road moderate on the issue.

I don’t have a problem with Licensing Gun owners, including training and background checks. How about stricter laws for the criminals caught with guns. We had a couple of parolees arrested with stolen property and guns. They were back on the street the next day. WTF? On parole and caught with gun should be 10yr minimum sentence. Guns are our first line of defense. I you have to wait for the police, it maybe to late. Thanks for your comment.

First off, we don’t keep stock cars off roads because “they are too powerful” Mostly this has to do with emissions, among other unrelated things. Regardless, stock cars are not illegal, you just can’t drive them on public roads.

Also, You do not need a license to purchase a car.
You do not need a license to drive a car on private property. You do need a license to drive on public roadways.

      Lets compare:

You don’t need a license to own a gun. You don’t need a license to use a gun on private property.
In most states, to carry a concealed handgun you do need a license to carry in public. “powerful” guns would be too big to carry concealed, anyhow.

There is no reason to further restrict firearms, or any reason to license those who do not wish to carry them in public.
